Anyone have one of these? I’m really tempted to get one. I have a Ruger Redhawk in 44 and reload. Not sure I really NEED another, but…….

I have a 629-4, Mtn. Gun, one of the older Smith and Wesson Mountain guns. I have never carried it in the mountains though. I do carry another four inch barreled 629 under my bino harness when bowhunting, but it is a production run 629-6 I believe. It stays loaded with 240 grain hard cast bullets in front of 23.5 grains of Hodgdon H110. I keep hearing a lot about QC issues in this latest run of Mountain Guns that was released by Lipsey’s this summer. I wouldn’t have any issue buying one, but I think I would want to see the actual gun in person though, and inspect the fit and finish instead of buying online where they just provide a stock photo of the gun.

I have a 629-6, 5" barrel full lug. I shoot 305gr Underwood in it when in the mountains both at home and around the country. I had an occasion to try a mountain gun at the range recently, that cured my desire to own one. I thought the recoil felt substantially more than my 44. requiring more recovery time. In a rapid fire contest with a bear I won't to win.
