6 PRC reloading

The bushings aren’t tapered so you’ll want to run an intermediary step
First pass with a .280
Final pass with a .270ish depending on brass

With Hornady dies this is a non issue. Single step neck down with a .270” bushing on Lapua brass

Gonna be ordering myself a reamer this month to start my 6 PRC, think I’ve settled on .140 freebore and will be shooting the 109 eldm.

Playing with the AB app it says the stability of that projectile with a 7.5 twist is below ideal. Do I need to step down to 7 twist to get optimal BC from this bullet?

Will be shot out of a 20” barrel.

AB generally always shows on the lower end of stability. Both Berger and JDM will show it as stable. You’ll want to stick with 7.5 twist otherwise you’ll be over spinning. There’s a bunch of guys running 20” 7.5tw with the 109.

If I wanted to shoot the new 118 6mm bullet would that still be enough twist?

@Schmo out of curiosity, whats your loaded neck diameter with your lapua brass?

I'm at 0.273 loaded, and using the SAC bushing/mandrel calculator, I need to be using a 0.268 bushing. (I called SAC when I ordered my die and bushing, and they told me to order a 0.267 which I have). So if you're using a .270 bushing, your brass must be thicker than mine?

Any particular reason why you’re going with a short FB?

.274” - .275” on loaded. .270” bushing gives me about .003” NT. Shoots good

Cool, makes sense.

I have about 40 rounds through mine currently and it shoots great. I'm going to try shooting some different bullets with H1000 and H4831SC to see if there's a goldilocks in there. I'll share results here after late season.

I couldn’t find a exact answer in this thread and saw yall were using 180 for the bigger bullets, figures 140 would be ok with the 109
It’ll be okay, but .180” would be more optimal. The .180” even works good with the 108 ELD. It’s the Goldilocks FB
