Hey everyone. I’ve been looking at this as I have a build I’m planning. Was pretty well decided on a 25 prc but I’m not sure it offers enough difference over the couple 6.5 prcs I have already. I’m wanting a lower recoil round that can get me to 800 yards with an 18 in barrel. The creed seems like the easy button but I’d likely have to step on it pretty hard to get there where I’m at at 1800 ft. The biggest game I’m looking at with this is mule deer. I’ve read all the 6mm kill thread. I’m not interested in going down to 22 cal. The cm will give much better barrel life than the prc but this is strictly a hunting round for western hunting. Best I can tell, an 18 in creed will top out around 2900 with a 108 where a prc should get to 3100. I’m wondering if these numbers are accurate and what twists most are using. I was thinking a 7.5 would work well for either. The creed I would likely shoot 105-109 bullets where the prc, I’d be looking at 109-115 or the new 117/118 sierra is supposed to be bringing. For those that have these rounds,Are my velocity numbers in the ballpark for both rounds? What twists barrels are you using and if you went prc, was the 200 fps worth an extra 15 grains of powder?

I have an 18” 6 creed. With 108 ELDMs I getting 2845 with 43.5 gr of N555. This 0.5 gr below book max. I have not tried any other powders yet. I don’t see me getting anywhere close to 3000 with a 108 in the creed.

I think 2900 is going to be stepping on it pretty good. This is why I’m leaning prc just to have the capability if I need it. Also to be able to shoot the heaviest 6mm stuff at a reasonable speed. What twist are you using ?

I took a tikka 20” 243 8” twist and traded the bolt for a magnum bolt and had it reamed to 6prc. Getting just over 3100 with 108 without leaning on it to hard

The 6PRC can make your velocity goals with moderate loads of temp stable powders (H1000) will have less recoil than a 25 and they’re just fun to shoot

The draw for a 6cm is the ability to buy cheap cases of factory 108s and even more reduced recoil, if you’re reloading anyway might as well ru. The Wildcat

This is partially where I’m at as well. I will reload for it and I’m hopeful tikka will come out with a 6 creed in the next year or two. I’ll be building from the ground up on this so that makes the prc seem like a better idea

Yep 2900 would be a stretch for me as well. If 3000 FPS AND 800 yds is your goal you would be better off with the PRC. My barrel is a 7 twist.

243AI?

My Tikka 243 is pushing 108's at 2845 without really pushing it. 8 twist though so at your altitude you'll want a custom a barrel throated properly...
