I have been planning to get a 22 Creedmoor barrel for my Tikka t3x, probably in the 20" range, for deer hunting and range shooting/practice. But some discussion about 6 dasher made me compare ballistics for the two and, other than factory ammo, the 6 Dasher looks like an equally good or better way to do get the same results.

From posts on various forums, It looks like the 22 Creed can realistically push 88 ELD-M (.274 G7) at 3000-3100 fps from a ~20 inch barrel. In comparison, the Dasher can realistically move a 108 Berger EH (.287 G7) at ~2800 fps.

Velocity, is fine for bullet terminal performance of both bullets wihin any reasonable hunting distance. To the extent it matters, the 22 Creedmoor is moving faster. At 675 yards, the Dasher is still moving at 1824 fps, while the Creed has slipped to 1924-2003 fps.

Energy just barely favors the Dasher at the muzzle, At 500 yards, the Dasher carries 1011 ft-lb, but the 22 Creed has fallen behind at 925-1000 ft-lb. At 675 yards, the Dasher still ~800 ft-lb (enough to double-lung thin-skinned game), while the Creedmoor is down to 723-784 ft-lb.

Wind Drift is pretty close, but slightly favors the Creedmoor. Assuming 10mph crosswind: At 300 yds, Creedmoor = 5.3-5.6" (1.7-1.8 MOA )and Dasher = 6.0" (1.9 MOA). At 500 yds, Creedmoor = 15.8-16.7" (3.0-3.2 MOA) and Dasher = 17.7" (3.4 MOA). At 675 yards, Creedmoor = 30.6-32.3" (4.3-4,.6 MOA) and Dasher = 34.1" (4.8 MOA).

Recoil/Sight-picture movement slightly favors the Dasher.

Powder Use: The Dasher needs ~33 grains to reach that velocity, while the Creedmoor will burn 43-45 grains. So I can get ~ 25% more rounds from each pound of powder.

Barrel Life clearly favors the Dasher.

Drop is less with the Creedmoor, but that is not really an issue. At 300 yards, the difference is approximately 2" or 0.5 MOA. Anything at or beyond that distance would be lasered and the drop most likely dialed.

In short, based on 6 Dasher's reputation for easy tuning and consistency, and since I do not buy any factory ammo, I do not see a good reason not to pick the Dasher as my light-recoil plinking and medium-long range deer/predator cartridge.

What am I missing?

I love my prs dasher setup.

Magazines and magazine tuning would be one potential negative. But mdt's dasher mags have been great for me.

Iv had both. 2800 in a 20” dasher will be pushing it.

If your chosen bullet maintains 2000fps at your furthest desired terminal range the dasher is a great cartridge that will no doubt be easier all around imo. Both to load for and shoot.

The creed likely gets you more distance till it hits that number.

If your going to feed dasher through aics mags there will likely be no issues.

I have shot a lot of 6Dasher and like the cartridge. But I think your ballistics are overly optimistic for a 20" barrel. And you will need to buy a new magazine to get the Dasher feeding in the T3.

If you want to go 6mm, then a 6 Creed will give you more leeway on hitting the ballistics you want and it will feed straight out of a Tikka 308 magazine with no additional work required.
