Just trying to find someone competent that can ream out my 6.5x55 Tikka T3 to 6.5 PRC and also open the bolt face up for the PRC? Would there be any other issues I need to be aware of on this? Will the magazines work fine with the PRC?
Thanks!

if your set on spending the money, give Paul Hampton a call at Country Custom Metalsmithing in Fallon, NV.

He does great work, couldn’t recommend him enough.

First, not that it really matters but factory ammo for the prc is better with modern bullets. Second, my tikka is not a factory rilfe... its a comple custom with a proof carbon barrel and custom manners stock. I'm just tired of hand loading and factory sweede ammo is anemic at best.

The fact that your barrel is a Proof carbon pretty much precludes it from being rechambered to 6.5 PRC. You will have to take off quite a bit of the shank, which probably won't leave enough for cutting new threads.

I am going to echo what others have said. Either rebarrel or just buy a PRC.

I say do what makes you happy. I happen to like handloading and enjoy getting the most out of a cartridge. So for me it wouldn't make sense to go from the Swede to the PRC , but if you dislike loading your own ammo and want performance that rhe PRC offers in factory ammo it makes sense.

OP, this is not practical with a carbon barrel due to the limited shank. While it might be technically possible, the way most smiths operate is to cut new tenon threads which will leave you with insufficient shank. This is especially the case when attempting to “clean up” a long action chamber with a short action reamer.

I was in the same boat as you with a 6.5x55 Tikka. Contrary to most Tikka it was very picky regarding bullets to the point where I bought a 6.5 barrel with the intent of rebareling it. I also got tired of hot rodding it with extrapolated data. I ended up buying a T3X in .300 WSM on a deal and rebarreled that one in 6.5 PRC with that 6.5 barrel I had. I agree with the others, just buy a 6.5 PRC and thats coming from a big 6.5x55 fan!
