I am considering building a 6.5 wsm and am wondering what the real world difference will be? I am not planning on shooting past 800 with it.

The 6.5 WSM is a lot more work but there are more high BC bullet choices. If you screw on an eight twist 270 you can use the few high BC choices available and I think you would be pleased with it. Either way you'll have a great medium long range rifle that is not too punishing in a lightweight rifle.

Better LR/high BC bullet selection. You might want to wait and see if Hornaday starts making 6.5 SAUM brass as is rumored. I believe WSM brass is scarce but SAUM brass is nearing unicorn status except for way over-priced Norma.

There is going to be some Hornady 6.5 SAUM available from GAP later this summer. I'll be buying some myself. I'm not at all impressed with the Norma brass I bought. 270 WSM brass is not a real big issue and why I'd with the WSM case family. I have a new 7mm WSM being built and there is no brass available in the hand loading market. You have to pull down factory loads or fire form from 300 WSM.

I just got my .270 WSM back. I haven't started load development yet but I have 4 boxes of the 165 Matrix. Planning on shooting them over H1000. uploadfromtaptalk1429223261017.jpg

Rem 700
Benchmark 1-9 #5 contour 28"
Mini Mag Muscle Brake
Timney Trigger
20 MOA base
Burris XTR rings
Vortex 6-24 x 50 Viper HS LR ffp

Longshot Custom Rifles in round mountain NV did the work. I still need some cerakote done but that can wait.

Thanks. It shot pretty good with the factory barrel but I wanted a 1-9 twist for the 165 matrix. I've heard rumors that Berger will be releasing their 277 170 grain EOL bullets by late summer and I want to give those a try.

I heard rumors that Berger would be releasing a 195gr 7mm...over two years ago. I lot of guys purpose built rifles for that bullet. In the mean time Berger cries that they can't keep up with demand but they can launch a loaded ammo line that uses the bullets they can't keep up with demand for and screws their long time users who can't get the bullets that they have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars building loads and rifles around. I like Berger bullets very much but their commitment to the handloading market seems to have diminished. At this point I believe we are suffering from designed shrotages to keep the prices high. I'm building my future loads around smaller makers like Matrix and Swampworks JLK bullets that I've had little problem getting in a reasonable time even at the height of the shortage. I believe in Berger keeping their word like I believe politicians keeping theirs. I believe it when I see it.

I hear you there Shrek. I first heard of the 170 grain bullet from Berger a couple years ago. I will be shooting the Matrix for now and IF Berger ever does release the 170 then I will have another option for a heavy high BC bullet but my gun wasn't built to specifically shoot the Berger 170. Matrix used to have a 175 grain bullet in .277 but it isn't on their site anymore. When I asked Marshal about it he said if he had a big enough demand for them he would run another lot of them but for now it was only 165's.

Why the hate for 7 saum? Just curious

No hate for the cartridge, just Remington's desire to kill their own baby and not make brass for it. Actually I have enough brass, if I take care of it, to likely last this barrel. I have an "in" at one of the big green ammo plants, he can't even get SAUM brass because there is none. They simply aren't making it due to demand for other ammo.
