6.5 PRC go to powder

Echo what has already been said here. H1000 and N565 are pretty standard performers, probably within 10-30fps of each other and relative accuracy depending on what your barrel favors.

N565
143gr and below, usually better results (for me)

H1000
143gr and above, usually better results (for me)

Tried H4831sc, StaBall HD, N568, N570 with varying degrees of success across a few different rifles and bullet weights.

Primers can make a difference as well, I’ve had slightly better velocity/accuracy in my last three builds with 215’s (magnum) vs 210’s (large rifle).

I just started load work up in tikka chopped to 22” and throated for 147s. At 58.5gr of RL26 I have 2950fps avg and sub 1/2 moa. I only loaded 5 at the time so I need to get back out and shoot again with this combo. I did get over 3000fps and almost as good of group with either 59 or 59.5gr I had stopped there and hadn’t hit pressure yet. Gonna find pressure next range session.
That’s doing pretty good!!

Put the suppressor on my rifle, loaded up 58 gr of H1000 and shot a group! Pretty good, I think this is the load I will stick with Average velocity is 2825 fps.
(The picture shows 50 yard group, I messed that up it was 100 yard)

2825-fps is on the higher end of the velocity that I would expect to see from a 20-inch factory tikka barrel with 147-eldms and H1000. Curious what brass you are using and what your COAL is?

How many grains for the 156 B? That is a lot of speed there
I think 54 if I remember right but would have to check my notes. This load wasn’t this fast when I started originally it started in the 2800s can’t remember exactly with a new barrel, then barrel sped up to 2940ish if I remember right. Then the last time I shot it was up to the 2975ish range not sure if the last time i chronographed the barrel sped up more or if the new lot of powder is that different.

Hornaday brass, 1st time fire, 2.955 COAL, i was using my buddies Athlon Rangecraft chrono, when i used my Caldwell chrono i was getting 2803 fps.
Im going to load up some more and try it again with mine.

I'm working on a similar project - cutting a factory 6.5 PRC Tikka barrel, and I'm back and forth trying to decide between 18" and 20".

From research and playing with GRT, I was predicting closer to 2,725-fps for 147-eldm & H1000 out of a 20" factory barrel. And closer to 2625-fps if I went 18-inches.

Your results are encouraging that I might get a little faster velocities. Looking forward to seeing where you finish at.
