I am looking at a 6.5 PRC and wanted some feedback from folks who have used this caliber personally. I am considering the 140 grain range of ammo. Game will be mid size game….deer, sheep etc. Based on ft pounds of energy looks ok at least up to 600 yards and that’s about my max personal ethics limit in the field. I am not interested in more firepower as I have guns that will deliver a bigger payload already. Thanks in advance for comments.

Also, here you go...

While I love shooting my 6CM, the 6.5 PRC is still my favorite and IMO the easy button for just shooting factory loads. If you do reload then it’s even better. I use both the 143X or 147 M from Hornady.

I love my PRC but it absolutely makes no sense over the CM for 600 yards and in. As posted above in the 6.5mm thread, the good 6.5mm bullets have been proven to kill everything in the world.

I’ve got a couple 6.5 prc’s with 20 inch barrels. That’s the sweet spot for me. I’ve taken deer at 40 yards with a 127 lrx, a sheep at 130 with the 143 eldx and a caribou at 300 with the eldx. No drama on any of the animals, just dead stuff quickly.

Why do you say “ sweet spot “ ?

I loved mine. Only sold it because Avery talked me into a 6 UM. I mean it didn't take much I've always wanted a wild cat. And I wanted to go to a shorter barrel and not lose speed.

Just in terms of barrel length. I just got a tikka in 7 prc with a 22” barrel and wish it was 20. I still get great velocity at 20” in the 6.5. I can’t get suppressors where I am so I don’t really see the need to go any shorter.
