6.5 CM vs 6 CM within 800 yds. Am I missing something?

I'd put more thought into how to get closer, than if the 6 is better than a 6.5
That’s always top of mind. Unfortunately sometimes the “closest” I can get is between 500-800yds.
Do you shoot a .223 as well?

My long term goal is to set up a .223 and a 6cm pretty similarly and do a lot of the practice days with the .223. That has given me the warm/fuzzy about choosing a 6cm and not being as concerned with its short barrel life.

If that’s not an option or not appealing, and the reduced recoil doesn’t sound like enough of a draw, then to me, no the ballistics alone of the 6cm would not sway me away from an already established supply of 6.5 components.
I do yes and shoot my .223 more than any other rifles aside from .22lr. I’d say I shoot 70% .223 and 30% everything else for centerfire. 1200 round barrel life for the 6CM still sucks despite having the .223.

I went from a 6.5# scoped 6.5CM to 8# (suppressed, scoped) 6CM. Already shooting much, much better with the smaller gun, but in equal weight setups I don’t think I’d be running to change the 6.5 unless you were ready to switch, kinda like others have said here. I do like shooting the 6CM a ton more, and due to that, get a lot more practice with it already.

Based on you already shooting out your 6.5CM barrel I wouldn’t switch to a 6CM because you are just going to go through barrels faster. You don’t mention what you and your platforms accuracy and terminal performance is but if you are already happy with those then again I see no need to go to a 6CM unless you just want to give it a try. The 6CM and 22CM are fun to shoot and I gave all of my 6.5 CM stuff away after I made the switch.

I liked the idea of picking up a 6.5 CM take-off barrel (or barrels).

If you decide on 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5mm brass can easily become 6mm brass, and powders should mostly just work. But no cheap take-off barrels there.
