I would pick one bullet that you are confident with for all species you hunt with your 6.5. The last thing I like to do is change bullets and have to site in my rifle every time I hunt a different species. I actually use the same 300 WSM shell for everything from antelope to elk to moose!

They’re antelope. No need for a deep penetrator like a mono or accubond/petition. There’s a good chance you’ll have a farther shot, in the wind…it’s the prairie. Shoot a high bc bullet that’ll buck the wind and hold its speed.

127 gr LRX should be extremely reliable until your bullet drops below 2600 fps. With a decent load you should stay fast enough up to about 330 yards. In closer it holds together well. I would love to hear reviews of that bullet at slower velocities.

6.5-300 is still north of 2900 fps at 275 yards. I'm not surprised it made a big hole. Great shooting!

On my 2022 antelope trip we shot antelope with 6.5mm LRX and ELD-X. All antelope died but the ELD-X makes more of a mess on the exit side. I’ve seen that with both a 6.5mm 143 gr and 7mm 162 gr ELD-X and prefer the LRX on antelope just to save meat.

Probably overthinking this but figured I’d see what everyone thinks. Got in on an Antelope hunt here last minute in eastern CO. I have the 4 bullets on my shelf that I can load for my 6.5 PRC. No appreciable precision difference between the 4.

Sounds like there’s a possibility of a “long” shot, but I think that probably only means 3-400 yards. I’d like to shoot the 156, but not sure if I should be worried about that bullet performing if it ends up being a 75 yard shot.

Thx.
143 hunters for sure!

Thanks for all the input.

I still don't know if I'm much closer to a decision though haha. It's either the LRX or EOL.

Just pure performance on game the LRX is a clear winner to me, but I can't quit looking at the weather forecast. Friday 25-35 w/gusts to 55 mph. Saturday 20-25mph. The LRX moves 40% more in the wind.

Both are ~1/2 MOA 5 shot groups give or take.

There's 8 of us hunting so whatever I do I'll report back what everyone used and how it went.
