6.5/300 Weatherby any info or thoughts welcomed

Barrel life is the big one. Signicantly less than the creed or prc.... Personally I’d probably lean toward the PRC. I run a 6.5 GAP (rsaum) and love it. The PRC isn’t much different, but much more user friendly in the way of brass and/or manufactured ammo. For me it seems to be a nice balance between speed and barrel life.

I own a 6.5/300 weatherby magnum. It’s a screaming round with flat trajectory and lots of power. Yeah barrel life could be a concern but as with any caliber that is screaming out the barrel, just let the barrel cool between shots. Ammo is currently made by weatherby with price ranges from 40-90. You could also reload. The rifle does not have a lot of recoil but enough to let you know it’s there. I personally like it and for what it was designed to do, Hunt! If you got any questions, let me jnow

Shot several. Seen several deer fall to 6.5-300 Weatherby rifles. Some of the Weatherby rifles are having issues with needing to be cleaned a lot. Saw one rifle with a burned out barrel after 550 rounds. That said, it is one heck of a screaming cartridge. Has some recoil but definitely tolerable. My next rifle build is going to be a 6.5 and I'm going with the PRC.

Massively overbore, unnecessary belt on case, limited brass supply, goofy weatherby shoulder.. basically a less desirable 26 nosler. shoots heavy for caliber bullets faster than you want for ideal on game performance unless shooting solids. By the time you develop a load, prove dope, and practice a bit the barrel is probably starting to go downhill.

That pretty well sums it up! If I was looking for a really fast 6.5 I would certainly lean toward the 26 Nosler.

I’ve got one in the safe, just got it a couple weeks ago. Have yet to shoot it. Will try to remember to report back after I do so.

I have a 6.5cm and 6.5prc.... never will I own a 6.5-300. In my opinion, I just think it is overkill in many aspects--barrel life being #1. Love the creedmor and prc though. Lots of brass around for those as well.

Depends what your into? I am a speed/velocity guy. The creedmor does nothing for me. The prc interests me. I am also a weatherby guy and left handed to boot. A new 6.5-300 ultralight left hand followed me home recently. Shoots 3/4" and the fastest 6.5 made! Whats not to like!

I have a Creedmoor and a PRC so why not the trifecta. The 6.5 - 300 Weatherby was the first barrel I ordered on a switch barrel rifle I am trying to have built.Still not sure if it is going to get done but the ballistics are bad ass.
