7 twist is recommended for those long bullets?
I played around with bergers twist calculator and 1:7 was good. I could get away with 1:7.5 easily, but I didn’t see any downside to getting tighter twist. I may have to go to 140s if I can’t find the 156 which also seem ok with 1:7. I’m not an expert on this, learning as I go, so take it with a grain of salt.

I just ordered a preferred barrels prefit. 750 straight taper, 24”. 1:7 tw. Ended up going with the “match” reamer. Now need to find some 156 Bergers….
My PBB 750 taperless shoots everything I've fed it so far ridiculously well right out of the gate. If you're fairly new to this like you mentioned I bet this barrel will be a game changer.

Your reports from PBB on that barrel taper vs tikka and photos is what made me go that route. So thanks!

Old thread, but did you ever get the 6.5-284 up and running? Thinking of ordering one from PBB myself for a Tikka as well.

I did. It’s been shooting great so far. But I’ve only got about 50 rounds down the pipe. I’m running the match chamber and 156 bergers which has worked out nicely. The only thing I would change is going to 1:7.5 twist next time.

What's the velocity?
2775 with 54gr n565. Having some issues with pressure using this powder at higher charges despite good groups and better velocity. 55.5gr got me up to 2830fps. 24” tube.

You’ll speed up once you get some more rounds down the barrel. I had a big speed up at about 110 rounds and finally settled after 140.

At lower charges H1000 produced better velocity than 565 but when I increased the charges 565 started producing higher velocities for the same charge.

I have a longer barrel but was getting 3008 with 56.4 of 565 and 3010 with 54gr of rl26. They both shot great in my gun. It surprised me but H1000 wasn’t as consistent out of my gun.

Was this Peterson brass? My wife has a 22" 6.5-284 coming.

What distance did you find the lands at with the Berger 156s and the Match chamber with .188 freebore?

I’m considering this exact combo for a standard bolt face Defiance, but would like to know what range of COALs I’ll run into with the .188” freebore.
