$5k - $6k for a hunt….where would you go, what would you hunt?

Where can you hunt elk guided for 5k?

You won’t get food or lodging, but there’s opportunities in Oregon first rifle with good success rates.

Wow that is crazy, took my daughter to eastern Wyoming. Spent 4 days there in a KOA camping. Had less then 1k in the entire trip driving from Pa. And she killed a good buck on day 2, public ground.

You did better than i did. I included everything purchased for the trips - rangefinder, boots, etc. as well as travel, food, etc. We stayed at the KOA too.

Antelope are a fun experience - glad you guys got it done.

If you had $5k - $6k to spend on a guided hunt, not counting transportation, where would you go and what would you hunt?
Specific outfitter recommendations would be great!

Mountain lion in Colorado with Lookin Up Outfitters

Iowa muzzleloader with Midwest Antler Company
OR,,,,

Pronghorn in Wyo or NM with Pronghorn guide service

Chase something like caribou in Alaska. The experience alone is worth the cost of admission.

Oh we had a blast, it was a low impact hunt, and the daughter loved it. Met a rancher NW of Douglas that sold hunts. He said if she did not kill in several days to come see him. He would let her hunt his place FOC.

Costing me about $6k to do a 3 day guided antelope hunt this year. $4k for guide and licenses, $600 airfare, $400 for1/2 car rental, tips, some sight seeing while out there, hotel stays, food…. Adds up quick.

DIY runs about $3k everything included without 3 or 4 guys to help w the split.

The hard part of DIY hunts out of your usual area is scouting before the trip. How do you improve odds when traveling to a new area hunt?

I’ve done a lot of the things listed, not all. My two would be:

couple years back we did a guided duck hunt in AK for under 4k each. 4 days of phenomenal hunting. May be tough to do unless that guy is still running. He was like $350 per guy per day, with lodging. Pre-Covid. As others have said, anything in AK is worth it for the experience.

Did cats with hounds in CO this year. Little over 5k, but another one of those things every Hunter should experience.

That said, I wouldn’t trade either for my Ontario moose. But that’s twice your budget at least.

Long weekend before the season, rental car, fishing rod, binos, two cases of beer.

I will give you something different Chamois in Romania, Austria, Slovenia or France. Should be about 4k for the hunt.

Or Roe Deer in Europe, I had a blast in the UK (about 7 years ago now) shot 7 deer (3 different species) for about 2k.
