5 fletch vanes

Anyone tried it yet with vanes off a springy? Trad vane or other?
I heard Cody greenwood talking about it on the push podcast, I’m not going to, I have done it with my compound, as well as 6, and there is more difference to me fletching them vs shooting them, I’m sticking to 3 or 4 with appropriate vanes and call it good

There is no reason I can think of that justifies more fletching time, and more drag on my arrows. They fly great already. Tuning is more important than number of fletchings.

Agreed. and thats from a guy that has shot every size/kind of fletching. Once you get to the "Enough" point....more is not better.

It only makes your arrows fall from the sky faster. Go to a shoot with Flu Flu's where they shoot at birds- those arrows don't carry far with all of that fletching.

If you arrow is wobbling that much out of the bow....its tuning not fletch. Shoot bare shafts until they group with fletched to dial it in. Could be spine...could be the shooters form.

I shoot 3- 3" feathers with big 2 blade BH's and they fly perfect.

Pros:
  • Looks cool
  • Can judge crusty level of wood arrow shooters quickly when they see your 5 fletch. Jaw clenching, eye twitching, guffaws, etc
  • Can see arrow fight great. I shoot 2" bright yellow feathers. helps correct form issues for me.
Cons
  • More time and cost fletching
  • No difference in accuracy
I think trad vanes would be too much/ long. Also I run less helical with 5 to avoid cross wind pushing the arrow. Cody Greenwood measured trad vanes as way quieter than feathers, but feathers as more forgiving. I have 1-2 four fletch 3" trad vanes in my quiver and can't shoot the difference.

I'm not sure if three 5" vanes equals 15 inches worth of drag, and five 2" vanes equals 10 inches worth of drag? I'll have to to ask my my buddy who is an aeronautical engineer.
