truncated lead 230 grain every lion hunter/chaser/houndsman that I've known (a few) packs or packed a 22 mag revolver or short barrel carbine be sure and shoot for the lungs

I am a hound hunter and we prefer 30-30 size rifles and 357 sized pistols. not that there hasn't been a lot of lions shot with 22 mag. its just what we like. honestly I think I would just stick with the bow if that's what you practice with, probably more accurate with the bow than the short barrel pistol.

If youre using the pistol for "just in case" it's coming towards you on the ground you might want to think about some hollow points. If youre thinking "just in case" your bow won't work for the shot when the lion is in the tree think of hard cast truncated cones or ball ammo so the bullet goes in and out, and is less like to knock the cat out of the tree. A cat that dies in a tree causes fewer vet bills than one that was shot in the tree and dies on the ground. I know some guys that have switched from the 22 magnum to packing the FN 5.7 pistol.

Either hard lead or Lehigh defense type bullet. Most jacketed hollow points are designed for expansion not penetration. If you can't get to the vitals it going to be hard to kill something.
I'm a fan of the Lehigh bullets. Do well on hogs (used up to 250lb so far)in a 357 sig
