.357 or .44

Been looking at the Henry Big Boy X models.
I like lever guns!
I have 2 .45/70s been thinking of something small as a fun gun and use as a deer gun in Ohio.
So .357 or .44 magnum?

Pretty sure Tikka doesn't offer either model so Ill save some of you typing

44 Leverrevolution worked wonders on a lot of deer for me. I like that round in a lever action a lot.

357 is enough, but 44 is plenty!

I have both in various lever guns. If wanting one just for deer and plinking, I vote the .357. The .44 Mag definitely lets you know it’s there. Not as much fun to just plink with even with reduced loads at 1300 fps out of a 20” barrel. With the .357, you can shoot .38s and they’re still coming out cooking out of the longer barrel.

357 is spicy out of a rifle length barrel that would be my choice

I use a 357 mag bolt gun and have 158s up to 1900/2000 fps. Drops most deer where they stand.

Get whatever caliber to match the wheel gun you want to have. Gotta have rifle and revolver same…

No wheel guns, regional large gun shop has them on sale, going to look at them this weekend.
Guess I’ll go big and snag a .44 mag.

I carry a super redhawk in 44 so my marlin is a 44 personally I feel like it's the best brush/saddle/camp/general use rifle I have never had any issues with recoil at all fun to shoot with some cheap cowboy loads but more than enough for western washington blacktail and loaded up with 340gr. Cast bear loads is great for the camp cook.
