Anybody have experience with this ammo? Shot some yesterday out of a ruger Hawkeye and recoil seemed to be less than my savage 16 300 wsm. Just curious if this is normal for the 35 whelen or if these loads are way under listed velocity? It’ll be a couple weeks before I run them through a chronograph.

Listed velocities:
300 wsm 180 grain at 2900 FPS
35 whelen 225 grain at 2750 FPS

I havent shot Nosler Ammo out of my 35 whelen, but when working up some handloads the recoil was stout but not horrible. The plastic stock on your 300 may make felt recoil feel worse than a wood stocked hawkeye.

Thanks for the response. Just finished shooting a lighter kimber 338 win mag, so that may have also been a factor haha. Was very surprised by the lack of recoil though

No worries, I had a ruger rebored to 35 whelen so mine is pretty light but the recoil still isnt bad. I think its an underrated round, can’t wait to drop something with it.

Agreed, I’ve read everything I can find online about it. I plan on shooting a couple white tails with it this fall just to use it. Planning on loading 250 grain partitions for elk and the possible moose hunt

I haven’t shot 250 grain bullets yet. I found a box of old core lokts at my LGS for cheap so I can’t wait to try them out when the range opens up.
