35 cal bullet testing that I posted on FB. A member sent me some 245g hammers for testing. I also tested 3 other bullets today. I compared velocity lost in the first 100 yards vs Hornady ballistic calculator to get an approximate G1 BC.
In the photo from left to right are 203g shock hammer (.235), 200g Power hammer (.345), and 245g shock hammer (.325). The increased length of the 245 vs the 200 really helped BC, but the website posted BC of .43 seems a bit optimistic.
I also tested the 140 SH (.190), Barnes 200 TTSX (.369), Hornady 200g SP (.295), published is .282.
No hate for the Hammers, I have used them with good luck. Just need to realize they are not as slippery as the website suggests. The big hollow point adds a lot of drag, so if BC is a concern I would suggest using the smaller hole Power or hunter versions.
From best to worst BC
200g TTSX .369
200g PH .345
245g SH .325
200g FTX .300
200g SP .295
203g SH .235
140g SH .190
200g maker .15

It’s been a combination of 358 JDJ and 35 Whelen on a encore frame. The Whelen has been converted to a 35 Whelen rimmed.

The 225gr TSX is also not too bad at .359.
its pretty good and based on the ttsx, I expect the bc is right on. i probably won’t use it as I don’t see any reason to go bigger than 200 unless I get a better bc. The 200 will go faster, have less recoil, and have better wind and drop.

accubond 225’s are listed at .430 or .421 depending on the site. the juice might worth the squeeze. Although I like the idea of a mono on whitetail. Shouldn’t be explosive at short range and still will do the job out to 300 ish.

I've been shooting 225 NABs out of a 35 Sambar, aka 358 WSM, with good results to 300 yds. Very accurate but I also like the idea of a 200 TTSX for near to far without fragging.

Love this data. I am currently cooking up hunting loads with some of these bullets so it's super nice to have actual BC data. Are you testing any of the heavier 358 bullets in the future? I'm wondering about the 220gr Power hammer and 254gr hammer hunter.

I was not planning on testing either of those. I don’t have a fast enough twist for the 254’s, although they look interesting. maybe if I build a bolt gun this year.
if you have some of the 220’s I will test them for you. need 5 or 6 and I will send you the data.
based on previous testing, I thing the 254’s will be .03-.04 lower based on the hp size. I suspect the bc is calculated based on shape and the hp is not taken into account. That’s all I can think on why the large hp is so far off And the small ones are much closer.

How are you testing velocity at 100 yards? I have a 1:12 twist so I can shoot up to about 275 grains. I also have access to a lab radar so I might be able to do it myself

If you have a lab radar you can do the testing yourself. Just set the distances to return speeds at 25,50,75, and 100 yards. Then put the speeds into a external ballistics calculator and adjust bc until it matches what you got for speeds.
