338 Cal Suppressor

Would a .338 can be a better choice than a .30 for 7 PRC, such as the Bad Larry or Dead Air Nomax? Going on a Bergara Crest...

I have 2 dead air suppressors and think they do great. The one that would be similar to the nomax (Nomad Ti XC) I absolute love. Good suppression and light. But if you are shooting it on a 7 prc get the Ti xc or the longer LTI XC.

Id say a 338 can only if you're serious about buying a 338 and want to run one can.

We're it me, I'd get a 30 cal for the the 30 and 7.

Imo, if interested in a 338, recoil is a concern. It's not cheap but the TB can with a built in brake is the way to go.

It's likely a wash, a deadair lti XC, will be similar in sound on a 7prc as a nomax ti. The extra clearance of 338 VS 308 pass through will be washed out by the extra inch of length of the nomax.

If you need a suppressor to cover everything 338 and down, get a nomax.

AB Raptor 8 or 10 in .338 is the answer you’re looking for.

I think based on Pew science the Aero precision Lahar L is the clear winner out of that group. But if you are not using a 338 I’d switch to Nomad LTI or TI. Bigger bore cans on smaller calibers don’t provide better suppression. At least if you follow the science. Bro science may say a different story.

The AB raptors are all the same size. I have one in 375 and it’s impressively quiet even on a 35 whelen.

My 338 can is a SAS 338 Vengeance that I got shortly before SAS came out with their newer MX series cans. It was a top 338 contender when I bought it but technology has advanced and the newer suppressors are just better.

I have a new DA Nomad LTi XC and I've played with both on my DDM4 300blk pistol with a variety of different ammo and to my ears I honestly struggle to tell any difference between the two and you are right they are just stupid quiet on a 300 blk but cool factor definitely goes to my 338 can because it just looks cool as hell screwed on it.

OP - if you don't actually have a 338, there's really no need to step up to a 338 can for better suppression. My 30s sound great on 300 PRC, 7 SAUM, all the way down to 223.

I went with my TBAC 338 so I could use it with my 338 RUM. It's an awesome addition, but also a huge can.

Having shot my 30 cal AB Raptor 8 on my 17 inch 243 next to @B_Reynolds_AK 375 AB Raptor 8 on his 6 Creedmoor with 18 inch barrel (or close to that), I'm going to disagree.

If you are advocating getting a physically larger can than would be needed in a 30 cal to get the same results suppressing a 7 PRC, well that is not what was asked and a 30 cal can of the same size would still give better suppression.

As for your opener, take your steer manure somewhere else, because that argument of your's certainly doesn't have the equipment to be a bull.

In my non expert opinion it depends on the volume comparing one to the other but exit hole diamter is a factor as well. I have two from Diligent Defense, one is the DTF STi on my 338Fed and an Enticer STi on my 7mm RM. The cans are the exact same size so there is not much difference between the two when used on the 7RM. I do feel the Enticer is slightly quieter though.

All supersonic ammo is going to be loud. On a hunting rifle, I go for the best lightweight sound suppression I can get. The best for me in that application is the Jolene S and the Diligent Defense STi versions mentioned above are really good.

You are correct. Plenty of actual data shows that bigger bore cans will do a good job of reducing db. But not as good as caliber specific suppressor. Pewscience did this with the OCL polonium and Polonium 30. Both shot 556. The db reduction was good in both but better with the Polonium. His podcasts are very data driven and maybe not the easiest to listen to. But you can look at actual numbers on the website.

Ended up with the Bad Larry and glad i did.. To my ear the Larry is quieter than my Gemtech Abyss on a 7mm PRC and 300 BO.
