WTB 32 inch draw bow

My long time hunting partner is looking to transition from his longbow to a compound. Life got too busy for him to invest the time needed to be proficient with a traditional bow. I would be interested in any advice for a good new bow that would fit him. I think he would prefer to stay closer to 1k than 2k. He is also interested in a newer used bow in good shape around the Boise area. Thanks!

If he is indeed in need of a true 32” DL, his options will be very limited. If he is 31 or even 31.5, he has lots more options.

Just thinking maybe coming back from a long bow, trying different draw lengths, especially with whatever type of release he wants to use will be a good place to start.

He is 6’ 5. We went to two bow shops today where he shot a couple bows and both places measured him and said he was a 32 inch draw.

Bet he could look into the market of 31.5 in dl bows and find plenty that fit

Most bows will vary little from listed draw length. Better off shooting what you can to see what fits best.

But as of listed draw length bows
Hoyt rx8 ultra or high line will have 32”
Mathews atlas
Bowtech revolt xl

Few more options in the 31.5 area

I saw the Mathews Atlas will go up to 34 inches and 75 lbs. I told him if he hits the gym and gets a 32 inch 75 lb draw he will be ready to hunt elephants.

I shoot 31 5/8 draw length with a 80 lbs bow, he will be similar to me. He will be able to hunt anything he wanted with it.

The next tough decision is arrows. Best bet to looks 200 spine arrows depending on foc but could use 250-260 spine to

PSE has made a slew of long draw bows that he could find on the used market. Don't overlook used target bows, many come in hunting colors and will work better for his DL. I'm a 31.5 myself, I can shoot a 32 but the 31.5 is more comfortable in hunting scenarios.

What type of release was he using? Different release types can influence appropriate draw length. If he wants more used options, he might look into different release types. This, coupled with d loop length and other factors could put him to a 31. At 31, there are many more options.

Since he is coming from trad he doesn’t have a release yet. I mentioned to him he could probably make a 31 inch bow between the release and D loop. With the insane price of bows these days I would want something that fit perfectly.

The riser geometry of the Bowtech Reckoning 39 is probably going to feel best for him. I run a Prime Black 9 at 31" but it goes to 33". I would give those a hard look as well.

Make sure he buys what is comfortable, I have hunted a ton with 39" bows and they handle just fine in the woods.
