Usually hear of these being used in the TC Contender world.

This one is in a contender pistol. I'll dig out some brass to take a picture of case. A buddy gave me the frame a number of years ago. He died with covid last year in his mid 30s. I'm gonna use it all year as a way to remember him.

It's not my most capable pistol by any means. Normally I use XP-100's in 284win or 7mm Dakota for hunting. They are much more consistently accurate than the T/C platform. Using this gun will limit my effective range but I think I can still bring home meat

Can a gunsmith re-chamber a 30-30 or do you have to to buy a new barrel.

By my understanding the 30-30 case benefits the most from improving vs most all other AI chamberings. It's a good one! Fire forming is easy with the rimmed case.

Have a 21" on a contender rifle.
MGM barrel first generation frame.
Have put down quite a few pigs with ballistic tips in the 30-30 AI.

Can a gunsmith re-chamber a 30-30 or do you have to to buy a new barrel.

Gunsmiths can re-chamber the barrel. Since it head spaces on the rim, I suspect they run a reamer into the chamber and that would be it. With typical rimless cartridges (280 AI, 30-06 AI, 35 Whelen AI, etc), the barrel is removed and set back a thread to allow the improved reamer to fully clean up the chamber. As well, this allows for the proper slight crush fit of the standard brass to headspace on for fireforming.
