All of my scopes have 1" tubes. How much of a difference does the 30 mm tube make, and when does it make sense to go to the larger tube? Low light conditions, when shooting over a certain distance ...?

The 30mm tube diameter allows for more internal adjustment, better light gathering properties come from glass/coating options. Generally speaking the 1" tube starts to run out of adjustment after 500yds. distance, so if you shoot farther than that the 30mm is a benefit.
