I got a good deal on a Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 and could use some help trying to figure out which brand of rings to go with.

I'm leaning towards either the Warne Mtn Tech rings, Nightforce Ultralights, or Seekins Precision. Pros and cons to any of these options? Are they all pretty similar with respect to build quality? Am I missing out by not considering anybody else? This is my first foray in to 30mm scopes and high-end rings and internet searches either turn up rings that I know are crap or don't provide any real helpful information for me to consider.

Thanks.

I went with the nightforce ultra lights, I only chose them because I was mounting a nightforce scope. If it wasn’t a NF scope, I’d probably have used the warne rings and saved a bit of $$$.

If you get the nightforce rings, you can get them for 10% off and free shipping from 1 shot gear, that’s where I got mine and they were just under 150.00.

I was leaning towards the Warne rings just for that reason. I also forgot about the 1shot discount; thank you for the reminder.

My vote is Nightforce. Lightweight and very high quality.

The nightforce rings are really nice and they look and work awesome but it seems like the warne mountain tech are just as good. (And 50 dollars cheaper).

When I was setting up a new tikka t3x sl and deciding how to mount the nigit force scope, I decided on a warne mountain tech rail base. It’s just as Talley rail I had on my kimber.

I think between these 2 setups it’s basically a draw with the nightforce being slightly nicer.

With that scope I'm guessing you want as low as possible. American Precision Arms (APA)makes the lowest I'm aware of and they are sweet (and expensive). American Rifle Company (ARC) M10 rings are very nice but might be a little overkill for that scope.

I haven't looked at warne. Plenty of good rings out there though, seekins, nightforce, APA, ARC, Hawkins, etc are all great choices.

Leupold dual dovetails, light, low, bullet proof.

The last couple of 30mm scopes that I have mounted went on with Vortex pro series rings. I've used most of the highend rings, and the Vortex's work as well as those do. Good machining, simple design, and made in the USA.

Just my opinion. Good rings for the money.

I've had great luck with Nightforce UL, Hawkins Precision, and Buckeye Tactical rings.

Where are you all buying your Hawkins precision rings? Dosent look like they sel directly unless im missing something.

Thanks for the suggestions guys; it sounds like I was headed in the right direction.

If these are the vertical split rings I would be cautious with them. They are much more sensitive to proper installation and a lot of people still have issues with holding zero and tracking with vertical split rings.

The horizontal vortex picatinny rings are just rebranded seekins.

Red Hawk Rifles sells them online and I believe longrangeonly.com does as well. My hybrids just shipped yesterday from RHR after being on backorder for a couple weeks. It will be my first experience with them, but I've heard great things about Hawkins rings.

Thanks they really appeal to me, sort of like a talley lightweight but with 20moa, I may ditch the rail/ring setup on my tikka.

Yep, red hawk is where I got my Hawkins rings.

The hybrids do have 25moa built into the base, so you'll need to decide if you want that or not for the shooting you're doing. Also, the hybrid low's aren't that low, with a 44mm VX6HD I have plenty of room where I do wish they were a little lower. If you are mounting on a pic rail then you have lots of choices and heights you can play with - for stand alone rings I am digging the seekins precision ones right now myself.

Buy a set of the Hawkins, then put your talley's in one hand and the Hawkins in the other...I can guarantee you that the Talley's won't make the cut. The Hawkins are on a different planet...but yeah you nailed it, similar design that serves a purpose if you don't want the weight of the rail, or the rail crowding your ejection port.

The only downside I see is what I posted above, you have to have the 20 or 25moa cant, they don't make a 0moa model that I know of. And, the low's are probably suited for a 50mm scope, so if you have something smaller then you will have more than enough room and may wish for a lower mounting solution.

You may also want to give Hawkins a call, because if I remember correctly the hybrids are currently only made for Rem700, Stiller, and Lone Peak Actions.

Well that settles that as I don’t have any Remington 700s right now. No worries, lots of options out there.
