Given the CURRENT reality of ammo availability today and considering a desire to purchase multiple cases of match-lot ammo (I'm not a re-loader) and absent any specific requirements for the ammo (other than it can be shot from an AR10) can anyone give me actionable advice on finding something suitable for self defense that this rifle will eat without a probolem?

Might use the ammo for predator calling in addition to practice and/or during a second civil war should one occur. I have never fired anything but hunting rounds in .308win thru my ARs and that ammo is unavailable almost everywhere in any volume. Thanks for your input.

Any 7.62NATO should run, but I wouldn't want to use it for self defense. Round construction won't matter, it's all going through your threat.

Edit: the standard for. 308 match is 175 gr FGMM. Looks about $2/rd

Try to find 5 cases of match-lot .308 in Calif. Unicorns are easier to locate. Nobody will ship to CA.

Have you considered moving to America?

In all seriousness I'd post on Cal Guns. Your purchasing requirements are so bizarre that any non-Californian response will be irrelevant.

+1. I would not use 7.62x51 for self defense in the home. The round will go through walls.
Get a shotgun or handgun for self defense.

So will what's coming out of a pistol or Shotgun. The difference is that a human body isn't going to stop a .308 at across the room distances.

You'll also have to say good bye to your hearing firing a 16" .308 indoors without earpro.

I have a CCW and well trained...never said i would use the AR indoors. I do ADC work on cattle ranchers with a high risk of illegals trespassing with drugs and arms. It's why I stopped using a 22-250. But I managed to locate 39 boxes of nosler hpbt 308 win 175gr. rdf so I'll give that shit a try. Just got lucky I guess. Bought all they had left in stock.

7.62x51 or .308 travels a lot fast than SD handgun cartridge or buckshot.

up to you, use 7.62nato or 308 for SD if you want.

it was just imo.
