308 Self Imposed Max Range

Thank you.
I’ve got an 18” Tikka and I was hoping for 2750ish. Looks like Varget might get me there.

I’m very confident with my Remington 700 police out to 750, but on game animals 500 is my limit. Just too many variables under field conditions for me to shoot at a live animal past that.

My Tikka T3x compact with 20” barrel, and 150 grain Nosler Accubond with 46 grains of Varget is more accurate than I am out to 300 yards which is the furthest I have shot this load.
Since I can’t give you real world results past 300 yards, that is my max imposed distance.
I’m fine with that as I’m hunting mostly the close woods of the northeast, and the fields I sit, 300 is more than enough to hunt with.

It's a great thing to practice at longer ranges with your hunting rifle but the truth is instead of working on making longer shots on game I think we would be a lot better off working on getting closer to our quarry. For hundreds of years hunters were whacking game at 0-100 yards, now it's lets see if I can whack one at 1000. I'm afraid it might come back and bite us in the ass.

Exactly. "Hunting" is not about how far, it's about how close. Shooting is one skill, and obviously important, but shooting is not the premier skill when it comes to hunting.

Already has. Some states are changing the rifle seasons due to the efficiency of modern weapons. There will be a “scoped” rifle seasons but it will be very short. They will then add more to the muzzle loader seasons but limit the weapons to open sights. Yes you can muzzle loader to 500 yards but with open sights it is much more difficult and efficiency will decrease.

Guess Michigan won't be one of them...
