.308 or 7mm-08

I'd go .308 simply for the vast options in factory loads. If you reload, then flip a coin. I'd still go .308, and shoot 155 Scenar's. I really like that cartridge bullet combo.

No animal on the mountain will be able to tell the difference anyway.

They're both good. 7-08 will shoot a tad softer in a very light rifle. I sighted in an older model 7 for a friend in 7mm-08 and it shot very well. I shoot 308. It shoots point blank to 250 yards and is very easy to dial to 400. The 7 will do the same.

I really like my 7mm-08.
Kimber Hunter, chopped to 18.5”
Took out the stock gel.
With a VX-II and three rounds, it’s 5 pounds, 10 ounces and a fun rifle to shoot. Though it takes all my attention to detail to keep it together.
In the end, no animal will know the difference.

That would look great with OD green Cerakote on the scope and barreled action.
