300prc for whitetail? …. I know but hear me out

I used my .300 WM on whitetail, once. Just sayin. Close shots are going to be gruesome.

Shot a pronghorn @345 with 215 berger at 2950 from 300prc this year. Zero meat loss. Just put it in the ribs and there's no drama. It just dropped and died .
Cow elk, same thing at 500. Ribs and she didn't go 20.
Bighorn sheep @ 500. Went maybe 80 yards down a steep draw on wobbly legs. No meat loss.
Daughter got sweet mulie buck at 200 thru the shoulders tho...oh my. Lost most of the off shoulder.
Muley @ 300, ribs, heart. Dead , lost the heart! Pist me off a little.
Go ahead and kill stuff with it. It won't pick it up and body slam it or blow it up or anything. And long shots ,the higher BC can be your friend if you shoot it real well.

300 prc supposed to be here next week. It'll get used for whitetails at least a few times. I couldn't help myself.
Based on prior experience, It'll probably be slinging ELD-Match 225gr to the heart/lungs.

I've shot several with mine using a 215 berger. Works just fine and doesn't do any more damage than the standard calibers most people use.

If you reload develop some light loads with 150 gr bullets and go hunting. The biggest advantage to using a lighter cartridge is that it can be shot comfortably in a light rifle that is easier to carry. If that isn't a consideration the way you deer hunt don't worry about it. Pick your shots to minimize meat damage when you can.

Often I hunt up on hills where I'm watching game in bottoms next to swamp and/or river.
I like gruesome. Gruesome usually doesn't run.

Shot several in the woods under 100 yards and none were more gruesome than anything else.

Why not?? I've killed whitetails with rifles up to a 375 h&h and as small as a 22 Hornet. I've had a 270 shooting 130 ballistic tips make a bigger hole than a 300 wsm shooting accubonds. If you have a 300 prc you want to kill a deer with I say send it and enjoy your time hunting.

I've done that at 10 yards straight on from an elevated stand. 300wsm 150 gr NBT. No need to field dress. Everything internal was already loose on the ground.

300 wsm was a bit overkill at 30yds with 200gr eldx ,180gr partitions would be great. Shot a lot of deer close range with a 7 mag and 160 gr partitions with not a ton of excessive damage. 6.5 creedmoore and sst bullets did a ton of damage.

I shot this tiny buck with my 300WM and didn't lose an ounce of meat. Bullet placement is important.

Dead is dead. The deer doesn't care what you shot them with. If you shoot it well, use it.

The bullet has more to do with it than the cartridge. If you use an explosively expanding or fragmenting bullet it will destroy more than you want—that would be a waste, maybe ok but potentially ruin a lot of meat if you hit a shoulder. Its the perfect place for a mono bullet that will ruin less meat. End of the day It’s just a souped-up 30-06, not a rocket launcher.
