I’m stuck here and looking for insight.

I’m in the process of building an 8.5” .300 Blackout for deer hunting/truck gun work in the Southeast. This will be a “do all” style build to cover Hunting/Light SD use in the 25-150 yard range. *Gun will be suppressed*

Torn between 2-10x42 /36mm style scope with a red dot mounted above it, or an Eotech style RD with magnifier, or an Aimpoint Patrol dot with a magnifier.

I’m open for other suggestions or ideas here as well.

Thank you

I recently asked a very similar question about LPVOs vs red dots vs EOTech, as I've been running up against some limitations on capabilities in shorter distances (inside 300yds, especially inside of 100-150), especially at-speed, with LPVOs. The ones I was considering were an Aimpoint T2 vs an EOTech. @Formidilosus said this, verbatim: "That’s the easiest question on this board- any of the full size Aimpoints. The Pro, ACO, Comp M4."

My Aimpoint M4S just arrived today, waiting on the Bobro mount for it to arrive anytime now. Looking forward to getting it on the gun and seeing what I can do with it.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet on a magnifier, as I need to do a little more research on what would be best for the M4S out to about 300yds, but it's definitely on the menu.

A 1-4 or 1-6 is plenty for 150 yds. Tbh a 3x or 4x prism would work well too. Ive got a 300 blackout for subs only shooting and an eo tech style holosun is pretty great for that. 2x glx pa prism on my main AR. Before that the same gun had a triji credo 1-6 and hits on targets at 600 were doable, 400 was no issue, and in from that it was obviously ideal. That 1-6 now rides on a 6 arc upper for hunting. I also have a 5x athlon prism on a 16" 5.56 that ive actually enjoyed. They make a 3x and may be worth a look on a budget. Lightest weight is what I would want in a truck gun. 150yds and in isnt hard to find an optic that would fit the bill.

Definitely look at a Primary Arms SLx prism with the .300blk ACSS reticle. I use one on my 10" AK (very similar ballistics to .300blk). I love that scope. I run mine with a piggy backed eflx, strictly for passive aiming under NODs. 3x works just fine for close distances without NVG but also gives a good amount of target ID/precision for shooting within your intended ranges.
