300 wsm short barrel

Anyone running an 18” or similar barrel length in 300 wsm? Thinking about building a shorty on a tikka to run suppressed. Would go 30 nosler if had any other action. What velocities are you seeing with 200+ grain bullets?

20” 180 accubond 2920 with 66.5gr superformance, I think the max is like 69.6gr

You could maybe get there if you're standing on the gas really hard but I wouldn't expect your brass to hold primer pockets very long.

I’m hoping for some feedback.

I recently got that 20” Proof Carbon barrel for my Terminus Zeus QC action, and am shooting 200gr ELD-X. I’ve previously reloaded other calibers so this isn’t my first time. I’ve reloaded 6.5x47Lapua and 6.5CM. Just not 300WSM.

I did some load work up yesterday.

I got 2,760fps with my barrel and TBAC Ultra 9 can shooting H4350 at 63.5gr, Norma brass, CCI 250 primers. I checked the brass and there is a slight ejector swipe. Primers look good and the bolt is easy to lift. I can’t tell if I’m over pressuring it. I shot factory 180gr Norma Bondstrike (got 2,890fps) and the brass looks the same way.

Thoughts?

I use 63 grains of H4350, Norma brass, Federal Mag primers and 168 grain Barnes ttsx’s. I get an easy bolt lift and slight ejector swipe marks.
I think Norma brass may be a little soft. I get swipe marks on their factory 300 wsm Bondstrikes also.

63.5gr H4350 seems like a lot of powder for 200 ELDX
I'm using 64gr H4350 with 178gr ELDX and that's pretty much maxed out on my custom 20" 300wsm

I wanted to build a short-barreled suppressed 300 WSM for a while. This will be a work in progress. I will be trying a few different suppressors, brass, and powders. The bullet I want to use is the Berger 200x20. I named the project the pug because is short and ugly. HAHA. Here are the specs at...

The 300 RCM is much more suited for short barrels than a WSM. In fact, it is arguably superior in a few different ways. If you are going to put a rifle together as opposed to finding a factory rifle, it‘s a no brainer. It may be an issue if you don’t handload as RCM ammo is a unicorn in many areas. Short (20”)/ lighter contoured barrels are what the RCM’s were designed for. They don’t have rebated rims. Case diameter allows for one more round in the magazine than most WSM magazines. To name a few benefits.

Well, I just ordered an 18'' 300wsm barrel from CarbonSix to go on my TL3. I have a 24'' proof sendero on it now but that thing is a broom stick with the Nomad LT on it. @Alaska92 thanks for the comments on the RCM, I have brass and dies for the WSM already so it was a no brainer.

Copy. It sounds like you‘re set up. I like to mention the RCM’s from time to time because I think they are often overlooked without merit. They have attributes that are not completely understood.
