Mountain goats can absorb lots of trauma. Use a well constructed projectile that is accurate. Put the bullet in the right place an down for the count. Can’t breathe, can’t go! MTG

Took last year's goat using handloaded Barnes 168gr TTSX bullets in my .30-06. They're leaving the muzzle at 2,770 feet per second. Two quick shots, no problems, and the billy was down. I've used the same load on deer with good effect.

Here's a 6mm Remington shooting Nosler 90gr. E-tip at 3140 fps into gallon water jugs at 25-300 yards. Testing expansion, penetration, and weight retention. It's a killer in my son's 6mm Remington.

I like the performance that the 90 gr. E-tip in my son's 6mm Remington has provided. I need to load some up for my 30-06! A 150 gr. Nosler E-tip on your 300 WSM would be a screamer and would retain weight and penetrate like a champ.

Here's just a bit more science. This is my son with his first elk he took with one shot at 350 yards. Hit her tight behind the right shoulder and the bullet exited the center of the left shoulder. She staggered about 20 yards and tipped over. 6mm Remington 90 gr. Nosler E-tip!

The last goat I shot was using a Winchester .308, and a 150gr. factory TTSX bullet. It was a one shot kill at approximately 230 yards, quartering away. The bullet lodged just underneath the skin of his opposite shoulder, and bullet retention was about 99% (or 148gr. on my scale).

I've killed one spike and my wife killed a doe pronghorn with 162 Absolute Hammers in my 300wsm, 3150 at the muzzle. I'm really pleased with mono performance, I'm switching all my hunting guns over, but I reload so its a little easier. I found the 150 E-Tip to be a really good shooting bullet in a 300WBY, no game taken with it yet personally. The Hornady CX shot really well in a 6arc, I'd have no problem trusting any Hammer, E-Tip, CX, or TTSX on the lighter end of the spectrum in a 300WSM on a mountain goat.
