I am very new into reloading and I am getting a 300 WSM built on a tikka action. I intend to work up loads for it, mostly heavy bullets like the 200gr terminal ascents 200gr accubonds or eld-x . with these bullets is there an advantage to modify the tikka to accept longer over all length ammo?

There can be an advantage when you get into seating depth of the bullets. If your going to @ SAAMI overall length then you could leave it alone, if you want plenty of room to play with seating depths then swap that bolt stop like the dude above said and make it a long action. if you want to load some bullets that are heavier than the ones you stated, you're probably going to want to have that extra space and not hinder that capacity of the case. When messing with the seating depths you may find that the bullets maybe likes to be .020 off the lands and therefore maybe that bullets is seated out pretty far. that could be a problem in a short action mag potentially. you can pretty much mitigate that off the bat with going long.
