300 wsm copper ammo

I have been shooting 180 gn nosler partition federal premium out of my browning x bolt in 300wsm and have had as good a result as I am able to shoot. ( Inside a 6-7" ring at 300 yds) For whitetail in wi this has been plenty good. I want to switch to all copper because it will make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. What all copper ammo have you had good experiences with?

If you are targeting deer and smaller, then look at the various offerings in the 160-grain class. If you are targeting elk or larger, then look at at the various offerings in the 180-grain class.

My xbolt shoot Federal 165 TSX very well. I haven't shot anything deer-sized yet but I would not hesitate to.

Barnes 175 LRX is perfect for the 300 WSM.

I like the Barnes 168g ttsx and the hammer 166g out of my 308 and 30-06, apparently the 165ttsx is better for the 300wsm although they work well out of my 308 in my limited experience.

I am preferring the LRX line, and in particular the 175s out of my 30-06 to the 168 ttsx. I was attracted to the higher BC and lower expansion velocity.

Whenever you switch to Copper, they (being Barnes and others) recommend stepping down in Weight. The increased Velocity helps with expansion of the tougher monometals. That is why Barnes factory ammo comes in 165 gr and 150 gr. You can get the 180gr in the Federal Premium line though. For elk I personally use the 168gr TTSX. I don't know specifically why they came out with the 165gr and the 168gr, but the 168gr has a slightly higher BC, but not enough to worry about if you are running factory. In fact, I bought a box of factory 300WSM 165gr because it was on sale and it shot just as well as my reloads, and basically into the same point of aim.

The 150 grain Barnes TTSX shot really well out of my rifle. I’ll probably be trying the new Nosler 180 grain e-tips for elk this year though
