what does one do when mentally debating a bullet choice? Take it to Rokslide!

Rifle is a Tikka 300 WSM with 1:11” 21.5” barrel.

I’ve got two loads that are quite accurate:
205 EH at 2860
175 LRX at 3130

The only advantage is the 175 LRX fits in a standard Tikka WSM magazine. The 205’s require an HCA mag.

This 300 wsm is my go-to rifle and for all things big game. With either round, shooting distance isnt limited by the round by rather my ability / conditions… I think 600 yds is an optimistic upper end.

Any negative/positive experiences with either out there?

UM stock loaded175 LRX WSM is my California setup. No complaints out of factory twist barrel.

I shot 208 ELD M out of mine for several years, and based on that experience the 205 is the way to go. My dad has used Barnes for years in his and the wound channels don't compare.
200.20x, 205, and 208 are the bullets to optimize an 11 twist 300 WSM

What powder are you using to get 2860fps with 21.5”?

I have a 1:11 20" WSM barrel soon to go on my Tikka and plan to try loading 190 Speer Impact bonded bullets for my heavy hitter option that should still get ~2950 fps. Like you, I have LRX and Staball 6.5 for a lighter, faster round. My thinking is that a 200+ grain bullets seem a little heavy and slow for my short barrel. Terminal ballistics looks very good for the Impact bullet with good expansion and weight retention to 500+ yds, and all reports I've found are favorable. The price is also very low for a bonded bullet. They should fit a magazine with ~3" COAL.

I measured a 10-bullet average for 190 IMPACTs in a dummy once fired casing in my Tikka barrel and got: bullet length 1.419", jam CBTO 2.272, and jam COAL 2.928.

I’m working on a load for the 290 gr Impacts using Staball 6.5 and CCI 250s in my 24” 1-11” Tikka. COAL of 2.895 to fit factory mag and getting 2900 fps with 65.5 grs. Accuracy is sub MOA when I do my part. Not as fast as I hoped and probably room for more powder but I’m waiting for warmer temps before pushing it farther. I might just have a slow barrel too.

I meant 190 gr Impacts, edit button isn’t working.

I’m just getting back from the range. I have a 20” Proof cut for a Terminus Zeus SA QC, TBAC Ultra 9 Gen 2 shooting the 175gr LRX at 2,885fps, 50mils off the lands. 64gr H4350. The rifle seems to really love it. I tried higher charges but I’m getting stupid consistency. One session of 4rd had a 4.4SD and the next 4rds had a 2.7SD. I’m done. It’s like one hole too.

I tried H4831SC in same session and I couldn’t get any speed before I was compressing it too much.
