I recently upgraded my 300 WSM scope to a new vortex 4x12x50 and I am planning on purchasing a turret for it. I have always shot factory loads, winchester 180 grain bullets but since I plan to go the turret route I was wondering what everyones thoughts with more experience in long range shooting is on using factory loads and which are the best to use. I don't have the means to re-load so that is not an option. Thanks for the input.

My X bolt shoots Federal Fusion 165s like a champ out to 500 (as far as I have shot it), sub-MOA. However, for heavy game, jwatts has me dialed in with Nosler Accubonds in 180, and they are still MOA at that distance. They make factory ammo, might want to give it a shot.

How far are you really planning on shooting? I would run some numbers if I were you in a ballistic app. I shot longrange alot but my 300wsm is my lightweight backpack rifle. I found that out to 800 yards which is all I plan on shooting I found that there was minimal gain using 180 compared to 165. For me the lighter recoil, slightly better drops was worth the minimal energy gain and wind difference

My M700 likes Noslers Trophy Grade 180 gr Accubonds. I tried Federal, Remington, Barnes, and Nosler. The Remington ammo with the Scirocco's also shot good, but I decided to stick with the Noslers. I haven't done much long range work with this rifle so I can't really help out with that, but I do get around 3/4 MOA at 100 yards with the Nosler ammo.

You can get the Nosler ammo in either the 180 gr or 190 gr LR Accubonds at Sportsmans in Casper. Rocky Mountain also carries Nosler but they are about $8-10 more a box. RM also carries the HSM ammo with the Berger VLD's (I think 180 gr).

Im having great results out of my 300 WSM with the 168 Berger Classic hunter. Its a Tikka T3 Lite, that Im using as my backpack mountain rifle. It took a little work but is consistently shooting 1/2 MOA. This is a target I shot last weekend. 12" gong. The white splatters are mine. The center one was at 348 and the two low left were at 572. My dad has had the best luck with the Winchester Supreme 150gr ballistic tips and the 180gr Accubond loads. Through a chrono the stuff seems consistent. I used a fair amount of the Nosler Trophy Grade ammo as well. The only thing with the Nosler was slower speeds. Every caliber I tried was 50-120 fps slower than advertised, but it was accurate.

If this was a 300 win mag this would be easy. But you need to see if you can find some WSM ammo with a 210 or 215 gr Berger bullet. Dont get hung up looking for velocity. If you are going to use factory ammo and a turret these bullets will do all you ever dreamed of inside your effective range on game. I don't think ABM is not making it yet, you might try Hunting Shack Munitions (HSM) ammo. Get a box and see how your rifle likes them.
