300 Rum

Looking to start load development again on my 300 Rum. Going to start over from r19 and 168ttsx. Had to much pressure and hunting in 100degree weather the load just was a little to much.
Anyways I can start over with 168ttsx or go to something new 215 Berger’s, 200lrx, 180ttsx, 210 Berger’s. I have a few different powders to play with.
Or I could order up some Hammet bullets and go from there.
It’s been sitting in safe for to long and I need to at least settle on a load for it

My thoughts were always that if I'm shooting an Ultramag I might as well shoot a heavy bullet and get my money's worth out of it!!

Re19 and 300rum are like short fuses and dynamite. It might work, but it aint recommended. I'd jump about 15 powders towards the slow end of things.

Retumbo and H1000, behind 180 to 210 grain bullets (including 181 Hammer Hunters and 200 gr Barnes LRXs), have worked well in three 300 RUMs I have had.

I did use a 124 gr Hammer Hunter in front of a bunch of H4831SC for a deer last year.

If you thought that you had pressure issues before........

In my .300 RUMs, I have played with as light as 180 grain bullets but when hunting I shoot 190 and heavier bullets. If you want to use Alliant powders, Reloader 25 is where I would start and go up to Reloader 33. My preference in powders for my RUMs has been N-570, H-1000 or Retumbo. The .300 RUM needs a slower burning powder.

I just developed a load for my RUM this year trying several loads of different powders (H1000, Retumbo, IMR) with 212 grain ELDX bullets. I tested 1 grain variances until one was stood out as most accurate. The lesser the load the better for my rifle. I need to double check but it was 96/97 gr of IMR that significantly better than all others.

What’s your bbl twist? Also agree that RL 19 would not be my choice either.

I found a good load using 180gr TTSX and IMR 7228 due to not having enough H1000 to tryout.

Do you live in commifornia? If not, and you live in a free state where you can shoot lead, definitely try something heavy - 215 or 230 berger, 225 eldm etc

My current 300 rum I’m using the 168 ttsx at 3500 FPS with retumbo and my last 300 rum I used 150 ttsx with RL26 at 3675 FPS .
Let me tell you to 0-600 yards I’ve never had animals die quicker than with those to loads.

Go heavy. If you want to run 160-190 class bullets go with a cartridge that burns less powder. 215/230 Berger’s with H1000 and N570.

But if you're hunting 100 degree weather, you may want to try N565 or N570, they are more temp stable...

I have used H1000 is 20’ Michigan weather deer hunting and high 90’s while at the range in AZ. I have no issues with 86.5 grains of H1000 behind 230 Bergers.

I think I am going to go with the 215s and either h1000 or retumbo. I won’t be able to use it in here but it will make a good out of state load.

I have great results with the 180 gr. TTSX

I prefer a heavier bullet 190-220gr. I've personally had good luck with berger 190 vld hunting bullets. Hard to find bergers so I just ordered up some 212 eldx. Will give them a shot in 300rum and 300 norma mag.

Have heard hammer hunter bullets are working good but no personal experience.
