Hey there… first time rifle build here. This is going to be a dedicated hunting setup. It is going to be based around a Bighorn Origin LA and a Carbon 6 Barrel. I am leaning heavily toward an AG Composites Alpine Hunter stock.

My biggest question at this point is about bottom metal. I feel like this should be a simple choice but reading these forums has proven it to be many things but simple. But…. Here goes…

I like the idea of not being quite so limited in COAL with a DBM setup but I also like the simplicity of an internal magazine. With the origin, what are my best options in terms of quality and dependability? I know AG makes metals but it looks like they haven’t been producing them all that long. Which of the Hawkins would be best for that? The origin won’t work with the Wyatt’s unless some mods are made. Are those simple and are those mods that once they are made there is no going back?

Thank you all!

I’m not sure what your goals are or if you have already bought the origin action but we recently built my buddy a 300 PRC with the following components:

Pierce Shadow Action
Benchmark Sendero Light 8.5 Twist carbon barrel @ 24”
Manners Pro Hunter Stock
Triggertech Special Trigger
Hawkins Hunter DBM
1 piece Pierce 20MOA rail
Nightforce ultralight medium rings
Nightforce NX8 4-32

Bare rifle came out at 6# 12oz
Finished weight is just under 9#

I haven’t yet but I have ordered the barrel. I got it on sale a couple months ago. I am trying to keep it somewhat budget friendly hence the origin for versatility. It’s not a do all gun but I did like that I can do a lot of different things with the one action itself.
