Anyone loading 300 prc with a 1:9 twist.

Thinking its about time to start loading for my 1:9 22”.

What has worked for you?

Literally anything pretty much. Put whatever bullet you’re interested in killing an animal with in it and shoot it. It’ll stabilize most bullets and won’t spin any bullets apart either.

I built one with a 24” but have since sold it. N570 with Berger 230 hybrids was doing 2920 and shooting excellent groups.

N570 will get you 90ish more speed than h1000 but barrel life will suffer.

Thanks guys, looks like 215 bergs and h1000 is a solid combo. I’ll start here and see what happens.

Did you find a load? I got a 1:10 22” Seekins I’m trying to find a bullet and load for. Picked up a pile of h1000 but I see a lot of N570 suggestions

I load my 22" 1:9 proof for 215 Bergers. It shot H1000 very well but loved N570 even more. I started with 25thou off the lands and kept it there. My last load was beyond accurate.

What charge weight did you end up with on the n570?

81.5gr of N570 is what my gun loves. I can load hotter, well into the 2900s but at 81.5, my 10 shot group at the bullseye out at 100yds. Loaded up 50 more to go verify at distance. If there are no surprises, that's my load. If not, I'll drop to 79.3 of H1000 which had slightly better SD numbers but not drop dead precise and a bit slower.

I’m playing around with H1000 and 220 Berger LRHT.
I’m seeing slight ejector marks at 78gr. I wonder why I’m not able to get to similar charge as you?

Different lot of h1000. Different bore dimensions. Different chamber dimensions. Different brass capacity. and on and on. Ejector marks aren't a fool proof pressure indicator either.

That does make sense. I’m new to reloading so still trying to learn all the ins and outs.

What do you look for as a better pressure indicator? Heavy bolt lift?

Bolt lift and velocity are more trustworthy to me but really it's all brass specific. If there are heavy ejector stamps, that is a sign. Particularly with softer case head brass like hornady or norma, if you're running above mild ejector marks are common.

using Hornady brass for now so that makes sense. Marks aren’t heavy bust sometimes noticeable and usually only on shots 4 and 5 of a five shot group.

Wind gypsy hit it dead on but every rifle will be different not to mention components.

I'm a bit surprised by how much H1000 I can get in there. I'm well over VV load data with N570 too but their max charge of 78 seems ultra conservative too. You're shooting a different bullet with more bearing surface on top of all that.

Sometimes you get one that won't take a spicy load and you just have to play the hand you're dealt. Good luck man.
