I had a question about a 300 BLK as well.
What bullet yeilds the best kills when shot at subsonic speeds.
@Formidilosus
Hornady subX does good.

Garand thumb was using some of these projectiles during his 8.6 video. They look interesting.

Another thing to consider, I got some 300blk specific mags shortly after building mine because i started having feeding issues with my old 223 pmags. 300blk ammo is a lot heavier than 223, I'm sure its just a stiffer spring in the 300blk mags

I limited my hunting range with it to 125 yards and under. . I have a 9” SBR and the velocity just isn’t there for good expansion. I think a 16” barrel with 110gr drops below 1800fps (or right around) at 200. Where I use it, shots are 100 yards max.
This is exactly correct. Subsonic on a 300BLK is NOT for shots past 125 really. Deer can suck them up and run off with no blood trail. Had that happen before and only by a stroke of luck did I recover it. Drops a TON past 150 and especially at 200. But shoot one under 75 in the shoulder and they are down for the count and very little meat ruined.

My grandson has killed several hogs and 1 doe with 194 grain Leigh defense subsonic ammo. Shots were about 80 yards.

I've got a suburban place to eradicate deer and this had peaked my interest. I love to bow hunt but there have been times I got busted or picked off before I could draw. If I had a subsonic solution it would have been a different story.

I think it would be much easier then bow hunting for the majority of hunters. You can also get multiple hits with an AR. I have done just this on large hogs using Lehigh defense 194 grain subs. 200 pound boar ran about 60 yards and piled up.

Bow hunting gets tough late season when all the foliage is gone. Even the best stand set ups get exposed. The ability to anchor one in a clearing 50-60 yards away with the 300 AAC vs waiting for them to get close would be nice.
