I’m looking at getting a Rossi single shot 300 blackout rifle to shoot deer under 70 yards in the woods. Does anyone have experience with this and what bullet did you use?

Maker bullets. I have not used a 300 bo as it’s not legal where I hunt deer. I have used makers in 360 bh and 45-70. Subs are different in that they can kill quite a long way out if you account for the drop. They simply don’t slow down quickly. Less drag at subsonic velocity.

Thanks I seen these gorilla and Lehigh defense all make what I would think would work but I’d like to know if someone here has actually used them to any extent. Some like the sub x from hornady but I don’t think it expands enough.

Look into Discreet Ballistics, specifically the 188gr Sealous bullet.

I have no first hand experience, but their Facebook page & website are covered up in dead stuff shot with that. They're pre-cut & designed to open up MASSIVELY at walking speed.

I have killed at least 20 whitetail in Sc with Hornady sub-x. typical shot for me is 70-100yds. I dont usually shoot past that range. Couple close range head shots on does at 15-20 yds. Most are DRT with impact just following front leg up and shoot mid body. 300BLK in a Tac Solutions AR-15 Omega 30 can.

I knew I’d find what I was looking for I’m gonna end up with a backpackable stupid quiet lightweight deer slayer I’m stoked. Anyone have any animal photos autopsies or videos I’d love to see em.

They TAC 300 from Tactical Solutions has 11" barrel with a shroud for the can. Overall length is very short when stock is collapsed. I love it. The 300BLK with 110 gr hornady is a killer also with full velocity on WT or Hogs.

I’ll be using 194 Lehighs on whitetails does after Thanksgiving. I’ll report back on how they perform.

If buying a new gun consider 338arc. Was made to shoot heavy subs and it is being supported well.

The only variable you can change is the weight of the bullet. You get 50% heavier bullets with 338arc over 300bo.

I let my son use my 300BO on his first deer. I was running 110 vmax bullets over as much lil'gun as I could load. It was not a very impressive kill. I MUCH prefer him shooting 77tmks out of his 16" .223 than the 300. That was all I needed to see to make the decision that there were better options out there.

That's just my opinion though.

Limited experience, but for what I have seen, Maker Rex bullet.

200gr will work down to 450 or 400fps.

Its been said before tho, its more like a broadhead than a rifle bullet.

I have shot numerous animals with 223 &308 subsonic. All under 75 yards. I generally recommend head shots as I have had far to many failure to expand. This is especially true if you want to recover the animal. Way too many hogs have run off. Some days that’s great others I wanted them DRT.
