Barnes Vortex 110 gr is as good as it gets for the .300 BO. Sure there are others that work but the caliber was designed around this bullet and velocity for supers and then the 220gr for subs.

Same here on the Barnes 110s. 2250 from a 10.5 2450 from a 16” with h110. Tried 125 tnts one year and asked myself why after.

Everything I’ve tried the Barnes in shoots 1moa or better too. My ruger ranch will do 1/2 MOA on a good day. Pretty crazy.

My son killed 2 does last year with factory loaded Barnes. 16" bolt action. Both broadside lung shots. One ran 80ish yards, the other maybe 30. Both exited and left good blood trails. I tried to get him to crunch shoulders but oh well.

I’ve had great success with the Barnes 110. This guy shot a Antelope at 265 w/ no issue.

I havent tried subsonics myself, but there are people that swear by them under 100.

I wanted to revisit this thread with more results. The middle kid killed a great buck for his first buck yesterday morning shooting the 150 grain federal fusions out of a CVA Scout suppressed at about 70 yards. Bullet entered just off the shoulder blade and exited about 3 inches further back on the other side with caliber size entrance and quarter size exit. He ran about 40 yards and bled decent considering his heart was blown to pieces. The little 300 blackout for a 100 yards and in for the kids is about perfect.

My hunting buddy used 150g soft points and had very good results at short ranges (<200yd)

Haven’t hunted with them yet but I got a great load with the Hornady 110 VMax. At 300 Blackout speeds, the 110 VMax is more like a typical cup and core big game bullet.

I haven’t loaded up any Barnes, but my local Academy Sports carries boxes of 110 VMax. I think Hornady is a better value for handloading and practice shooting cause you get 100 projectiles per box.

Can’t speak to the 110vmax that has good reviews but I have had good luck with the 110 tac-tx, sample size of 1 out of a 10.5” SBR.

Here’s one that entered at the last rib on a hard quartering buck and was found buried at the base of the neck. If memory serves it was .6+ inches at the widest point. Zyn can and fat golden for scale.

I tried 110 vmaxes last year loaded to the brim to get some velocity. They worked but not well.

If I ever do it again it's the 110 barnes.
This, I use the 110s for coyotes but haven’t been happy with their performance on deer. Big fan of the 110 Barnes.

Good to know. Since then I've built a 16" tikka 223 for my son and it's been great with 77tmks. So good that I don't think I will trying the 300blk on deer again.

Anyone have experience on game with the Hornady 110gr CX mono bullet? I load for a .30-30 AI single shot and got a couple boxes cheap. The fire form loads are very accurate with Varget, but I’m curious if anyone has used them on game? Speeds are at least somewhat similar to .300 Blackout supersonic loads.

My daughter is hunting with a 300Blk this year.
I loaded her some 125gr Sierra Pro Hunters.
Havent had a chance to shoot anything with it yet but we have a bunch of season still this year.
Hope to get something done then.
Will report back for anyone that is still wondering about the round.

Just a heads up on the Sierra 125 PH. Bill Wilson's testing of them in the 300 HAM'R has shown the newer versions are probably too tough to perform well at HAM'R velocities. Would be worse at 300 BLK velocities.

The 125 SST and 125 BT are a couple of 125 cup and core options that do work well in the BLK.

Nice to know.
Will hopefully find out here soon.
At this point they are the only thing I have for it.

I'm guessing it will probably work out just fine. Maybe not the "best", but really doesn't have to be. I'll be interested in hearing your results.

FWIW, Bill earlier said he wouldn't use 125 BT because they come apart too much in his testing, despite me confirming I've had great results on game with them from the HAM'R and the BO. Now that he's tried them in 300 HAM'R loaded longer for bolt rifles, I think he's also found that they do work well. Bullet testing is a good start but doesn't necessarily give the complete picture. Actually shooting stuff does a much better job of that, I think.

I'm not sure if Bill has used the newer PH on game, or just tested them. I would think so, but don't know either way.

I had the same plan. Hunting with the Barnes and threw together a load with the vmax for play/practice. Think I was around 2450fps using a max load of H110.

My dad and I have 300 blackouts and in our experience the Barnes black tips are the ticket. The 110 vmax bullets tended to what we call grenade the inside and leave little blood trails with no passthrough. Turned their insides to soup. The Barnes gave us full pass through and plenty of blood. That ‘data’ is across many deer not just a couple for each bullet.
