30 years ago this fall, I flew from Inuvik to Utah.
Visiting friends & family, but had also set up an appointment with the President of Browning.
The purpose of the latter was to acquire one of their Browning Stainless Stalker's in 270 WIN, equipped with the BOSS released the year prior. The reason I was doing so was that I simply could not believe all the hype the 4 main US gun rags were loading on the BOSS. My thought was to buy it, prove their error, and sell it.
My Uncle served in the US Navy alongside the then CEO of Browning.
It was he I met with (with Dad, my Brother and said Uncle in tow)
He presented me with a "one of a hundred" version of what I was seeking.
We wandered over to Provo, where the gun shop had Leupold Vari X 3s on sale for 200 beans apiece - limit of 5 per.
Between us we bought 20 of them. A silver one topped the new 270 on Leupold bases:
The next day we took her to the range with a lot of varying ammo - from high end to the cheapest stuff we could find.
In all cases, within a matter of a few adjustments to the BOSS, all grouped less than 1/4 inch at 100.
Colour me both surprised and amazed!
Obviously the selling part never occurred...
Over the years this rifle has taken a LOT of game - deer, elk, moose, muskox, caribou, wolves and more.
It has well proven itself to be a very well trusted Companion.
In prep for an upcoming hunt, yesterday I went to test it's zero.
Aimed at the A.
125 yards out, this was the result:
In the past 30 years I have never had to adjust that scope.
The last time I did so was at the range outside of Spanish Fork 3 decades ago.
Simply amazing all the way around.
