I finally got my new 30 Nosler barrel threaded on last week, I was looking for input on going with a shorter barrel (Ended up going 24" instead of 22) and I know a few guys, @CApighunter, wanted to hear how it went.

I went with a hand lapped 24" 8 twist #5 contour Rock Creek button rifled barrel, its on a Defiance anTi action chambered and fluted by Kampfeld Customs.
The fluting shaves off a ton of weight, its .735 at the muzzle and only weighs 3 lbs.
Naked weight in an Alterra Arms stock with brake is 6lbs 15 oz
Its 9lbs 3oz ready to hunt, just under 10 with a suppressor.

I spent some time this weekend working up loads with H1000 shooting 245, and 220 LRHT Bergers.
Accuracy is proving to be effortless, I'm shooting both bullets into 1" groups consistently at 200 yards.
I've settled on 2825 with the 245, and 2975 with the 220 lrht. Granted this is with only 20 rounds through the barrel.

I shot 3 rounds with the brake and immediately replaced it with my shitty 4" Dirty 30 suppressor, wow what a difference in blast reduction..
Looking forward to getting my Banish 30 out of jail for some real suppression.

For anyone interested in how the 220 lrhts expand I shot a few into water buckets and saturated soil at 600 yards.
Expansion is excellent, I feel these bullets will kill extremely well just like the 215’s

I'll upload a few pics this evening

I shot a few more 220s at 1300 yards this evening into saturated soil, impact velocity was 1590.
I'm really impressed, the two I recovered weighed 120 and 165 grains.
In my experience shooting into soil doesn't generate expansion as reliably as tissue so these should be awesome on game.

I will be following this post.
I am wanting to shoot 220-245gr bullets in something a bit smaller than my RUM and the 30 Nosler looks like the way to go. I thought the 230s might a good choice. I see the 220 shows a bit of promising future.....
I really like that you are using a 24" barrel also.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the write up! I'm trying to get moving on my 30 nosler build, but stuck in that vortex of finding Berger's at the moment. I was set on the 215ge but you have me rethinking it

Good looking rifle.

I’m running a 24” barrel, berger 215, and VV n570. Running right around 3070fps. I have taken several whitetail, hogs, and a few mule deer. Lots of open country hunting but farthest was 186 yards on a mule deer. First round impact at 1100 yards yesterday.

Just switched from a muzzle brake to a dead air nomad suppressor. Gave some on length but won’t ever switch back. Got tired of my ears ringing

What suppressor did you go with?
I'm a year and counting waiting on my Nomad LT

Did you find the E brake to be worth it? Considering one for my Nomad 30 as well...
I found myself constantly running it with and without. I do think it makes a difference but very minimal. Does make a small compact suppressor larger and slightly heavier. I’ve switched to a short barrel 300 prc now and have yet to use the E brake on it.

Curious how much/if any speed you picked up as the barrel broke in? What speeds are you getting with the 230's?
