If you can get ammunition for a 30-378 it'll definitely take down just about everything. I would actually wonder about a larger caliber though for Cape buffalo. Don't know Jack about that.
But this is funny. Many years ago one of my friends bought a 7mm STW and another bought a 30-378. I was thinking" is my 308 enough for deer and hogs?" Turns out I was closer to the middle of the road than they were. Probably still am.
And now we're on the flip side with the newer generation being quite recoil reverse. Seems like everybody's talking about how big of an animal they can kill with a 224 bullet.
