I’m sure some of you will want to blast me for asking this but oh well.

I have a tikka t3x ‘06 that I need to get sighted in. I bore sighted it at about 25 yards, shot at 50 to make sure I was at least on paper. Where should I be sighted in at 50 to get my zero at 200? 165 grain accubonds, not sure of velocity I don’t have a chrono.

My normal process is to shoot at 50, 100, then move to 200 but my 100 yard range is closed and I don’t want to go to the range and start slinging ammo just wasting it.

It pretty easy to plug your dope into a simple program and find a theoretical answer. At 200 a few FPS will not matter. But, and it’s a bit BUT, the only to know is shoot it at 200. Rifles are funny...

I would go about an inch high at 50 and then move to 200. You will be close enough that within a few clicks you will be on and not be wasting any ammo.

I was about 2.5 high and 2 right at 50 from just a boresight. Thought it’d be close enough but just like to get confirmation first before I head back tomorrow and shoot again.

No shortage of calculators that'll get you close enough to generate your own DOPE. Without being able to chrono your load, that DOPE is even more important. Make a guess, based on factory specs, run it out a bit and see how "true" your "try" is..

I live in western Pa. and I site in dead on at 50 that puts me about an 1'' high at 100 and very close to dead on at 200 yrds.
Hope that helps. Bruce
This is what I do with all my rifles and I'm also about 1" high at 100 yards.

I'd say it's more important to get your windage than elevation dialed in at 50 yards. As others have posted, you won't be able to verify your elevation until your range opens up. You'll certainly be on target at 200 yards if you zero at 50.

It’s pretty good for sorting out the fluff and bullshit of “this one’s better than that”

For consideration:

That's from Hornady's 4DOF calculator - I often use it with their bullets. I will work up a new load when my -06 returns from being rebarreled. Manual lists 2650 as max, so I consider 2600 a reasonable target.

My sight height is ~ 1.6 inches. I'd be "on" at 200 yds with a -.9" high @ 50 and 2" high @ 100 trajectory...or very nearly. According to JBM, MPBR zero is 228 yds with a MPBR of 268 yds using a 6" target / 3" vital zone radius, ~6 inches low @ 300 yds. The 208 ELD-M holds onto better than 1800 fps all the way out past 600 yds.

Yes, that's a hunting load in my book. I've got some 165 SST SF and 178 ELD-X too, just because it's easy to come by.
