30-06 with 168gr TTSX and Accurate 4064?

Hello everyone! First Post on this forum.

I am looking to develop a new load for my new 30-06. As so many folks have experienced, I just cannot find many powders that are listed in the Barnes load data sheets or my books. I did find a few pounds of Accurate 4064, which a local gun shop insists will do the job. Accurate does list loads for it in their current data publications. Does anyone have any experience with it? I've never used the powder at all and am I generally stick to the Barnes recommended/published loads and powders. Any warnings? Pros/Cons? I searched for "Accurate 4064" and didn't come up with much on the site.

I currently have 168gr TTSX and a few 150's left, but I'd like to step it up to the larger pills if possible.

As an aside, I had an old load for a Remington 700 with a 150 gr. TTSX but I cannot find the powder anywhere and I'd like to move up to the 168gr. Primarily hunting whitetail in Mississippi and Texas, with feral hog hunts in TX as well. I am however in the process of scheduling a NE Black Bear hunt for next year as well. I've been reloading off and on for approximately 15 years. Mostly 30-06, 308win, 300 BLK, 458 SOCOM, 6.5 Grendel, 35 Rem, and 45 ACP. Honestly, I don't usually go crazy with the loads and generally don't push max too hard etc.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your experiences and thoughts. If the best advice is "dont waste the time" then so be it, but I'm figuring it may be worth some testing.

You should be fine starting with the load data on the Hodgdon site since they have that combo specifically. Barnes is a smaller company, so they probably don’t test as much as Hodgdon does. my IMR-4064 load was very accurate around 47-48gr out of my Tikka T3x Lite.

Yep. I saw it in the "Western Powders Handloading guide v8.0 that's linked on the Accurate site. That was actually the reason I was considering it.

If you email Barnes directly they may have a recipe that you can start with. That’s what I did with RL17.

That's a good powder to use with that bullet. I'd use Ramshot data. They show 51.0 grains as maximum, for 2,790 feet per second with the Barnes 168 TTSX. Accurate 4350 takes a few grains more powder, for a little less velocity. So I'd definitely give that combination a try.

That's pretty great. I've never used the 130's. Granted I've used 110, 120, 150, 165, and 168's in the past - all with great success. I didn't go w/ the 130's because I'm thinking a little larger for possible bear hunts, even though I know that it would probably be a good round for black bears too.

Yep the 130 grain TTSX has worked great for many in 30-06. Remember a 130 grain copper bullet has similar dimensions as a 150 grain cup and core. I also shoot the same 130 grain TTSX in my 308 and it’s deadly at 3050 FPS. Great bullet for thin skinned game.

I have no experience with 4064.

In 30-06, I started with two powders and two bullets and found excellent loads for both: H4350 for 150 TTSX and IMR4350 for 165 Accubonds. Both of those powders are a fair bit "slower" burning than AA4064.

When I first started reloading years ago I started with H4895. It seemed to be the easiest to find at that time and seemed to work great for my 150gr loads.
