I'm rifle hunting in Idaho in the Sawtooth zone in October next year, and its a drop camp hunt. I have a pair of Crispi Nevada's that are awesome, but I'm feeling like I should bring a backup pair (especially since weight isn't a concern).

If you were me, would you bring something like a muck boot in case of deep snow, or a lighter hiking boot in case I find I'm doing easier walking on trails. Also, should I look at adding gaiters to my kit? Recommendations?

I think a Muck boot would get destroyed if you're doing any kind of mountain hunting. Get a set of 10 inch boots if you're worried about snow, or just get a nice set of gaiters. The issue is having both boots broken in enough to not destroy your feet. If i were you, i would buy a pair of high guide type leather boots and have them broken in really nice before i went out, then just bring that one pair with you paired with gaiters. I use kennetrek gaiters, and they've help up really well. I've abused them chukar elk, and mule deer hunting in Washington state. Lots of scree and sharp rocks in the cascades.

I would get a insulated boot similar to your Nevada's, and add gaiters. It can get cold that time of year and gaiters are a crucial part of my kit that time of year.

Muck boots and Sawtooth sounds like a recipe for a lot of pain and suffering. If you aren’t concerned about cold feet, get you a good pair of gaiters and go with it.

Get a pair of 10”’or 13” pac boots (schnees, kennetrek, or hoffman) nd call it a day. Between your Nevadas and the pac boots your bases are covered for anything.
