Looking to order a 284 WIN barrel, but wanted to get some feedback from those who are running it. What reamer did you use to run high bc/heavy bullets? I've heard of 284 WIN GAP and 284 Norma Match reamers. Any other that will let you run 170+ gr bullets at chamber seating depth? Thx.

Gap Match has been good for me on two barrels

183 smk and 195 eol to just shy of 2800 in a 29" tube. Not really seating depth sensitive or anything funny to speak of. Mag fed setup on a Tik T3

Thx, I've got a donor t3x that I'm planning this around. Appreciate your input

The 195 load is probably 3.30" oal - just fits in the mag with freedom to move and it's always fed/ cycled reliably. Come to think of it, most if not all loads I've run are something like that oal. No issues.

Chamber fb works from 162 amax thru all 171/175s/ 180s/ 190/ 195. Haven't found a bullet it won't work with

Where did you get your barrel chambered? Thx again!

Local 'garage guys' 😁

But the reamer design is good 👍

Tikka are easy to work with, 1x16tpi, clamp the factory barrel tight, add a bit of heat, and use a 24" adjustable for the first crack. Haven't had to make a relief cut yet, but the factory torque is pretty high.

I borrowed some barrel clamp tools from one of the members here on the Rok. Was a barely used 270 wsm. And then swapped the mag bolt with a .470.

Been looking at all the short action 7mm for a few months now... And settled on the 284 win. Just needed some feedback on free bore/throat to finalize the reamer.

Factory torque was super high... Had to use heat and a dead blow to get the old barrel out. PITB for sure.

Have you thought about the 284 Shehane (basically an improved 284)? Gives about 3 more grains of powder and can run the 180s in the 2900 range if you don’t mind fireforming first? Just a thought.
I thought about it, but didn't like the idea of having to fireform all the brass. Maybe in the future on another build... But I run/reload 6 ARC, 6.5c, and 7 PRC already. This 284 is for my boys to have a lighter recoil elk gun out to 500y.
