280ai reloading help

Hello all,
I have a Weatherby backcountry 2.0 with a 1-9 twist 24" barrel. I have 145 Barnes lrx and 160 nosler accubonds. I have N555 powder. Looking to build up a load using nosler brass for this coming season. Any help would be appreciated.

I havent tried N555, but I have worked up a decent load with N560 and 160 accubonds. I started load development for my 280AI about 2 years ago using Nosler brass, but ultimately transitioned to Peterson brass. I just find it is much more consistent.

My preference is RL23, although it is difficult to find most of the time.

Im not at the house right now but I'll share my recipe that works well in that gun. I cant remember if its 7828ssc or 4831ssc. Buddy brought it into town and we made a load for it. It took Nosler and Peterson brass well. 150 and 175gr Accubonds. When I get back into town Ill snap a pic of the recipe board.

Not a lot of help but I’m using H4831 with Berger 175’s.

I haven't tried n555 in mine but it seems a bit fast for me. What does the vihtavuori app say? I would start at max 280 rem data for that bullet weight and carefully work up from there.

IMR 4831 for 160s, 4451 for those 145s

Here ya go. All those worked well in my buddys WB Backcountry.

This weekend, I got great results with Reloader 17 and the 140g TTSX out of a 20" barrel.

Using the free load data from Nosler, I got just under 2,800 fps with the 160g Partition. Accuracy was more than adequate for the sub-200 yard purpose I plan to use it on. The Accubond load data is the same (except COL).

RL26, if you can find some, is magic with 160ab.

I get about 3025ish mv, and very accurate.

Nosler brass and f210M primers.

Seems like I should buy a slower powder and save the n555 for a caliber needing faster burning powder. Thinking I will go with H4831sc or a slower burning vitavori powder. Thanks for all the help.

I dunno, it would be about like burning Varget in a 30-06 (which I do a fair bit of). I expect it would likely do pretty reasonable accuracy wise with lighter bullets, but will leave some velocity on the table, and probably won't be all that great with heavier bullets. I'd give it a run with those 145s, and see what you get.
