Hi yall,

I am having issues finding a load for my 280 ai.

it is a: origin action with a carbon 6 1-8 twist 26' barrel and a ag alpine hunter stock.

I tried 150 LRX and 145 LRX with no luck at all. Goal is to do monos and use them at further range.

I used n160 bc of the fill and burn ratio it was giving me, however when i went to go test out the 145s it hated them so much. It shot SD and ES in the 30s.

the gun shoots lights out with the factory 162 eldx precision hunter loads. Maybe try going for 160 class monos? Not sure.

Any recommendation would be appreciated!

Thanks.

My 1:8.5 iBI barrel and BAT action seems to like 160 accubonds the best. I have also have some success with 150 ELDX. RL23 and N560 have been my go to powders so far

I just finished load development with mine. Tried the 143 Hammer Hunters and they did fine, but based on my experiences with Hammers in a couple other cartridges, I was expecting a bit more out of them accuracy-wise.

Switched to the the McGuire 143 Copper Rose and have been really impressed. Did a ladder for velocity/pressure in .5 gr increments with 56.0 - 63.0 gr of H4831SC, it put the first 11 rounds into a 1.1” group until I hit some pressure around 61.5 gr and then it got a little erratic with the last few rounds. Settled on 59.7 gr which produces .6-.7” 5-shot groups (good enough for me given the thin barrel contour). I do have a 21” barrel, so my velocity is only 2920 FPS.

What was your jump with the 145 LRX? In my 7 SAUM, I seat them 0.050" off the lands and they shoot great. H4831sc may be worth looking into for your AI.
