270 wsm factory or go custom? LR >500 yards

Considering adding a 270 wsm to the collection.
Found a 270 wsm with factory 1:10 twist or should I save money and go with a custom build at 1:8 to run heavier bullets ( better BC)

Or just say screw it and build a 300 wsm

A 270 WSM with a faster twist rate barrel for heavier bullets pretty much is a 6.8 Western. Same case just shortened a smidge to add a longer neck. Difference in case capacity is 4 grains. You lose that seating a heavier bullet in the 270 WSM as you must seat it in the case.

Either custom with a long throat and a medium action instead of short. Or 6.8W.

If you're serious about the >500 part.....don't waste the time and money. Any 270 from win to roy is very capable at that range.

Even a 270-08, which doesn't technically exist, but at those speeds and the right bullets is capable at that range.

The factory WSM will do what you are planning just fine, but so will a 270 win with much more ammo availability.
